Mrs Louise Whiteley
Health & Social Care Curriculum Leader

Introduction to the Department:

Health and Social care is a Level 1/2 Cambridge national certificate – equivalent to one GCSE. It combines internally assessed coursework and externally assessed examination to determine an overall grade. 2 units of this course will be internally assessed and 1 unit externally.

The course focuses on the theory and application of different skills used in a variety of Health and Social care sectors. Students are encouraged to research and discuss using relevant examples.

There are plenty of opportunities throughout the course to get involved with external groups to help them apply the theory and build their CV with different experiences.

It does not follow the 1-9 grading system; but Pass, Merit and Distinction at both level 1 and 2.  Despite being assessed and graded differently to GCSE’s it is still recognised by higher education platforms as an equal qualification.
