I thoroughly enjoyed my humanities classes at Eggar’s, as well as modern foreign languages, which gave me a flavour of life abroad and put me in good stead for living in the cosmopolitan Belgian capital.
One piece of advice to give to a current student?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself.  As a gay man, I hid my sexuality at school and refrained from showing off my knowledge because I was afraid to be bullied or stigmatised.  If I could go back, I’d be more fearless and more determined to be individual and unique, because these are the sorts of credentials that will get you noticed in the future.
