Working Wednesdays and Future Fridays

Getting ideas for future careers ...

This term we have started a new project to get students in Years 8 to 11 thinking about their future careers. Several of our Alumni have returned to school to talk about what they are currently doing. It has provided a great opportunity for our students to have contact with real employers and the world of work.

First up was Tim Ansell, an entrepreneur and business owner who works out in Dubai. Students commented on how interesting it was to find out about financing and starting up a new business.

Sally Laker provided loads of information about the different opportunities within accountancy, and what it is like to work in different types of businesses.

There was a virtual experience with Adam Rowe who leads a Graphic Design team at Cunard. It was great to see examples of his work and to be able to understand the different routes into design. He will be helping us run a workshop later this year when students will be designing their own concept for a Cruise Gala night.

Finally, Ellora Sutton came into school. (Pictured above with Olivia and Meghan ). She has just had a third book published and was incredibly candid about her road to success. The students were really moved by her words, and we are really excited about the creative writing and poetry workshop she will be running later in the year. She also kindly donated a copy of her newest book to the school library.
