This month we celebrated those students who represented the school in sport in 2021/2. It was the first time in three years we were able to hold our Celebration of Sport, and more than 220 people enjoyed the evening.

GB Athlete, Jake Wightman was our very special guest. Sadly, due to illness he was unable to make it in person, but he gave the keynote speech via a live zoom and was very engaging in an entertaining Q&A.  We were very grateful to him for giving up his time to talk to us; his words were certainly very inspirational for our young sports men and women. It isn’t every day that you get to talk to an Olympian and World Champion athlete!

‘Player of the Season’ awards across all sports and year groups were presented, together with junior and senior colours. We had a live vote from the audience for Team of the Year and the final award of the night was for the Individual Performance of the Year.

Junior and Senior Colours
We gave Junior Colours to every student in Year 9 who has represented the school in a particular spirit across Years 7 and 8. Senior Colours were awarded to Year 11 students who had done the same across Years 9 and 10.

Team of the Year
We had a live vote from the audience for Team of the Year. The contenders were:  
• Year 10:  Boys Basketball​
• Year 10:  Girls Netball ​
• Year 10:  Girls Rounders​
• Gymnastics Squad​
• Year 10 Girls Athletics 

The Year 10 Boys Basketball squad were victorious!  They were runners-up in both the League and the Hampshire Cup, losing only to Court Moor in both competitions.

Individual Performance of the Year
Our last award of the evening went to cross-country and track athlete,  Idan Polat.
During the cross-country season, Idan was in the top 10 at the Senior District Championships, and 24th at the County Championships. He represented Aldershot District (racing against students a year above him) and he led the team to a podium team finish at the Junior Districts and 11th at the Junior County Cross-Country Championships.

During the athletics season, Idan was District 800m champion at both Junior and Senior Championships, the winner of the Charlton Trophy for best track performance at the Senior Districts and the County 800m champion running up a year against Year 9 students.
