Unfortunately no award for puns around Beatles song titles!
It was a wonderful night of celebration, some moving awards, an amazing Alumni speaker, some fantastic musical interludes from the Eggar’s Big Band – and some dreadful puns!
We were not only celebrating the achievements of our students, but also 50 years since we moved into the school buildings on the current site … and that led (possibly rather tenuously) to celebrating 50 years of The Beatles and a wealth of puns by our hosts Mrs Clarke and Mr Waite! They didn’t waste an opportunity to get in as many Beatles song titles as possible into the evening. It was a blessing we didn’t have an award winning student called Penny Lane to be honest!
There were 15 Subject Achievement Awards for Years 7-10 where 126 students proudly collected their certificates – rewarding their effort and hard work in each of the subjects.
Our Guest Speaker was Eggar’s Alumni Wendy Freeman. She spoke brilliantly about her memories of Eggar’s, she left in 1979, and also of her role in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, working currently as HM Consul General in Alexandria Egypt, soon to be transferred to Grenada in the Caribbean. She was inspirational!
The second half of the evening was all about Tutor and Progress Leader Awards for each Year Group and then the much coveted Special Awards. These recognise special achievement in a subject from Sport to Music, from leadership to the Linda Campbell Cheery Resilience Award.
It was a great night with an overriding sense of pride in the air!
