Amazing dovetailed clocks created in a day
Year 7 students gave up their Saturday to attend a Woodwork Masterclass run by the Design & Technology Department at Eggar’s. The Most Able and Talented students undertook a day’s project to design and make a dovetailed softwood clock with mahogany inlays. They learned many traditional woodworking skills and produced the clock using only hand tools. The day was delivered by Tim Elderton, ex Head of Design & Technology at Court Moor School and a very talented craftsman. The Masterclass was also attended by D&T teachers Neil Waite, Rob Bowen, Colin Evans and Stuart Mason.
Neil Waite, Curriculum Leader for D&T at Eggar’s said, ‘This is an amazing opportunity for our students to work with such talented craftsman. Tim is a superb woodworker and his enthusiasm is infectious. It was a challenging project but the students rose to the occasion and achieved an amazing set of results which they were immensely proud of. All students left at the end of the day with a beautiful handmade dovetailed clock.’
