Promoting Excellent Attendance

Regular school attendance is key to your child’s academic success from Reception through to Year 11. As a parent or carer, you play a crucial role in helping them arrive on time, every day, ready to learn.

Together, we can ensure every lesson counts. Here are some helpful tips to support you.

Make School a Non-Negotiable

• Only schedule medical appointments during the school day when absolutely unavoidable. If you must, please aim for your child to miss the least amount of time possible.

• Term-time holidays cannot be authorised. We understand travel restrictions can be challenging, but absences during school terms may result in fines and will impact your child’s learning.

• Avoid keeping children off school for convenience. Doing so is not permitted and can have long-term consequences.

• Monday and Friday absences linked to weekend travel disrupt continuity and are not acceptable.

• Poor weather or personal celebrations, such as birthdays, are not valid reasons to miss school.

Help Your Child Stay Engaged and Prepared

• Stay informed. Regularly check in to ensure your child is coping with their workload and keeping up with deadlines.

• Be proactive. Monitor their attendance via the school. Sometimes small absences add up more than you realise and will affect overall attendance percentages.

• Encourage participation in homework clubs, booster sessions and extra help when offered.

• Ensure your child is fully prepared each day. Missing equipment, incorrect uniform or forgotten homework may lead to sanctions under our behaviour policy.

If you have concerns, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s form tutor. We are here to support and work with you.

Consistent attendance isn’t just about being present, it’s about giving your child every opportunity to succeed. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of school each and every day.
