Excitement and joy as Eggar's students celebrate GCSE success and look ahead to bright futures
Staff at Eggar's School in Alton waited in eager anticipation to open their doors and welcome back the Class of 2024 this morning.
Assistant Headteacher, Chris Legg, one of the first to greet them on arrival, was full of praise for the year group: "They have overcome the challenges of a disrupted start at secondary school due to Covid and been justly rewarded for their commitment and determination with such impressive results. We couldn't be happier for them".
Stunning 'stand out' performances included Sophia (above left) who achieved a spectacular 8 Grade 9s and a Grade 8. She now plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Business at Peter Symonds College. Sophia said: "I can't wait to see where this takes me. All my hard work has been worth it."
Another star performer was Mylo (above right) who was thrilled to open his envelope to discover he had been awarded 5 Grade 9s, 3 Grade 8s and 2 Grade 7s. He is looking forward to continuing his studies at Queen Mary's College and is passionate about becoming a Vet in the future.
Relationships between teachers and students are very strong at Eggar's. Lauren, who has loved her time at school, said through happy tears, "I'm delighted with my results and will really miss being part of the Eggar's Family".
Other highlights today included the achievements of Eloise with 5 Grade 9s, 3 Grade 8s, 2 Grade 7s and Caitlin with 4 Grade 9s, 5 Grade 8s and 1 Grade 7.
There are exciting times ahead for Sonny (below) at Itchen College, where he will be playing for the Elite Academy Basketball League alongside his studies. Milo, our Hampshire Music Service HUB Scholar, will be starting his Specialist Music Course at Peter Symonds.
Over a quarter of all grades awarded at Eggar's were at 7 to 9 (A - A*). Outstanding performances were seen in English Language and Literature, Modern Foreign Languages, Geography and Design & Technology. Our popular Statistics course secured 100% Grade 5 or above and Music achieved 100% Grade 5 or above.
Sarah Holman, Head Teacher, said: "Students achieve very well at Eggar's and this year I am delighted that we have gone from strength to strength, improving on the success of previous years and striving to set the bar even higher for all students in the year ahead. We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students, not only for their exam success but also for the people they have become during their time with us. The whole school community is cheering them on today."
Eggar's School Open Events are on the 19th of September and 18th of October.
