Eggar’s School in Alton is delighted to announce the appointment of their new Head Teacher for September 2023, Mrs Sarah Holman.

This appointment follows the retirement of Mr Patrick Sullivan who has been at Eggar’s School for 18 years, 10 of those leading the school as Head Teacher.

Sarah Holman will be joining Eggar’s from The Petersfield School, an Outstanding rated school where she is currently Vice Principal. She brings with her a wealth of leadership experience and an infectious passion for high-quality education, having taught in Hampshire for 24 years and still enjoying being in the classroom teaching English where her career began. Those who have already met Sarah Holman will know that she is a motivational leader with drive and ambition for all students in terms of academic success and the extensive enrichment curriculum on offer as part of the Eggar’s Experience. She is relentlessly positive and aspirational in her approach and excited to be leading the school in this next chapter of its story, working in close partnership with staff, students, parents and the wider community to give the students the best education possible.

Addressing the new Year 7s with their parents last week at their Induction Evening, Sarah Holman said “On your last school day in 2028, I want you to be able to look back over your 5 years and know exactly why Eggar’s was the right school for you: a school you could be proud of; a school where you were able to focus on your learning in a calm, purposeful environment; a school with excellent, kind teachers who helped and supported you; a school where you could try new things, be yourself, take risks, be creative, ask questions, have fun; a school where you could become the very best version of yourself - happy, safe, successful; a school where you felt you belonged.”

Linda Campbell, Chair of Trustees from September, led the rigorous recruitment process for Patrick Sullivan’s successor. Linda expressed her sincere and heartfelt thanks to Patrick Sullivan: “Patrick has been a superb Head Teacher, an inspiration and a great role model. I am confident, however, that the Trustees have appointed the very best next Head Teacher for our school. We had an impressive field of applicants, but Sarah was, without doubt, the candidate whom the Trustees believe will lead Eggar’s School onto further great successes. She ‘fits’ so well with our values and aspirations, something that has already shone through since her appointment. The school will be in very capable hands.”

Sarah Holman said “I am looking forward to starting as Head Teacher at Eggar’s in September and would like to thank the staff and students for such a warm welcome.  I would also like to thank Patrick for his support during this transition period, and I wish him every happiness in his well-deserved retirement!”
