Eggar's Aspire

Textile Conservation and The National Trust.

On Thursday 30 November, Rebecca Bissonnet came in to talk about textile conservation and her work with The National Trust.

We had a great session and learnt all about her career trajectory from starting with an apprenticeship to working on short-term conservation projects. Rebecca detailed her journey and described her work abroad and for the Royal Palaces before opening her own studio, where she is very busy conserving a range of items.

The students then learnt what signs of deterioration to look for and how to prevent them and about different areas of conservation and restoration. Students were able  to spend time inspecting and documenting some items themselves.

The session was informative and practical, a perfect balance. It was an interesting session that certainly inspired many of the students that attended.
