Duke of Edinburgh Award News

Silver Expedition follows Bronze!

There have been two really successful Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions over the last fortnight. On the weekend of October 9-11, the Bronze Award Expedition took place in the Queen Elizabeth Country Park.  The 26 students were very lucky with the weather and after a training day, they spent the weekend hiking over 20 miles in small groups. They even climbed Butser Hill!

The Silver Award was last weekend in the New Forest and 9 students completed the expedition. They were assessed over two nights with seven hours of activity per day (as opposed to one night and six hours of activity per day for the Bronze Award).  It was another fantastic effort! They had to pitch their own tents, cook their meals, and complete the walks using map and compass.

The students on both expeditions had a brilliant attitude throughout, with lots of teamwork, smiles — and a few sore feet!

There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level for the Duke of Edinburgh Award:
• Volunteering (helping the community/environment)
• Physical (becoming fitter)
• Skills (developing new skills)
• Expedition (planning, training and completing an expedition).

With the Expedition section completed, our intrepid students are now looking forward to the other challenges ahead of them.

Good Luck!
