Theatre company in school

Enhancing and inspiring our students' performance

The Paper Birds Theatre Company recently visited Eggar's School to perform 'Thirsty'.  This was a Brechtian style performance examining drinking in the UK.  All year 9, 10 and 11 Drama students were lucky enough to watch the performance and 30 students also took part in a workshop to follow.

The performance was both funny and hard hitting. The company used clever staging, the use of projections and multi-roling to explore a range of different opinions and experiences.

Below is a review of the experience from Holly Murphy, Year 10:

I liked the use of Brechtian style theatre, this made me more engaged and made me think about the issues presented. The different perspectives and stories helped me understand more about the outcomes of binge drinking. I found the use of verbatim interesting because it made you feel like you were experiencing real-life circumstances. The idea of having the technician on stage made the performance feel less forced.

The idea of being set in a toilet block, made the performance feel more intimate and engaging.

Overall the performance was really successful and gave me new ideas to use for my devising performance.
